The Weidmans

One of the best weekends in quite a while, it was wonderful. Friday night we went out to eat with Weid's parents and sister, Jodi. We went to Chuck-A-Rama, one of my favorite places and watched Heidi devour everything that was put in front of her. It was so funny to watch because she wouldn't even look at the food before she just threw it into her mouth. And if a spoon came her way with food on it, she just opened up without thinking about it. Our Cougars dominated and it was such a fun game to watch. It was really fun for me because my dad came to the game with me. We cheered on our winning Cougars, even in the rain. In case you didn't know, Heidi is our little miracle baby. One year ago today, our little baby went through a miraculous surgery that saved her life, so to me, September 11 will always be a day of a miracle. Last summer was quite a trying time as we found out there were some problems with Heidi. Luckily, the only one that was true was that she had a diaphragmatic hernia. This happens to about 1 in 4000 babies that are born, and there is no known reason for it at this time. Her hernia was not as bad as it could be, but it was enough that her stomach and intestines had moved up into her chest cavity. The hernia was on her left side, so she was born with her heart squashed over into the right side of her chest, and her left lung was only 1/3 the size of a normal lung. So being born with less than a 50% chance of survival, I was very grateful when my 3 day old baby had a successful surgery. Yummy...a cupcake. Well, today was Heidi's first birthday. Since we already had the party with family, we just had a tiny little party at home. Of course we had to watch the BYU game, so that was the majority of the party. And then we had some cupcakes afterward. I think that Heidi enjoyed the game a little more than we did, but it turned out better than it looked like it was going to from the first half. All in all I think that it was a happy birthday. Of course we had to wear our cougar blue!

This weekend was the first BYU football game and we won, so of course it was a good weekend. We went to Utah Friday afternoon, and Weid went golfing with his dad and I went up to Swiss Days with his mom. It was a lot of fun to see how creative people are. It's like a huge craft fair. While we were there we got a sandwich to eat and Heidi wanted some too, and then when it was all gone there were some pickles left on the plate so I decided to give some to her. She had a funny face the first bite, and then she just ate them like they were any other food. It was so funny. Saturday was game day. So we got Heidi all dressed in her cheerleader outfit, and she looked so cute. She was so good at the game. There was some shade in front of me so I just let her sit there for most of the game and she did just fine. Weid made his way to the field, and has now become the videographer for the cheer squad.
