The Weidmans

We ate a pancake breakfast and watched the Highland Fling Parade. The girls won prizes for dancing before the parade and Brynlee was the lucky one chosen to get a monkey from a group in the parade. We headed up to the family reunion only to find that they had just closed off Cottonwood Canyon for a bike tour (earlier than we were told it would close) right before we got there. We found a park near the mouth of the canyon and played there for a bit, letting Lacey be her wild self. But then we decided to go to Chuck E. Cheese instead since the canyon would be closed for a couple hours. We all had a blast, including the adults who enjoyed shooting hoops and getting shocked. We eventually were able to make it up to the reunion. We played games and saw some relatives. Those who had been there during the canyon closure left as we arrived so it wasn't the best for having everyone get together. The Weidmans spoke in church before their mission to Albania. I will never forget part of Brent's talk that day. He spoke about a speech given years ago by a (then) 78 year old, Coach John Scolinos, about not widening the plate . Home plate is 17 inches in all leagues of baseball. They don't widen it for kids who can't throw over the plate. We shouldn't change our standards or the consequences when someone fails to meet them. We need to hold ourselves and others accountable. I took the kids two at a time to the dentist that week. Lacey was her crazy self. The kids had swim lessons. We went to the summer movie, played with giant water balloons, and attended the kid games of the Highland Fling. I had to make a donation to take this picture of Hailey with the lizard.
