Labor Day

September 5th was Labor Day. We had a fun day at home together as a family. Good thing Weid doesn't have any Monday classes or he would have had to go to school. I think it's so weird that Virginia Tech does not take off Labor Day or Memorial Day. Oh well. We went swimming for the last time this year. I used the self-timer to get a picture of me jumping in. The first time I just got the splash and the second time I got a pretty good one. After that I think I only stayed in for a couple minutes. It had been getting a lot colder and the girls would only swim for a few minutes and then be freezing. And the leaves have started to fall into the pool which makes it a maintenance issue. So we swam for one last time and then closed it up. It was raining pretty good as we were putting the bricks on the tarp. See you next year pool. Our friends had a BBQ. It was going to be at their house but with the rain it was moved to the church. It was a good decision. There were qui...

Football: BYU vs. Ole Miss

We are so excited that BYU Football is back! It's our favorite time of the year! September 3rd was the first game. Cougar was ready! He loves to play with the football and to raise his arms when we say "touchdown!". Heidi was so excited to wear her BYU clothes again. She got a birthday card from her Great Grandma Thede that day with stickers. She loved it! She was doing the funniest pose that day that reminded us of Jessica Bingham with her hand on her hip and sticking her bum out. When trying to get it captured on camera though she wouldn't quite do it the same. Hailey was also excited to be our cute little cheerleader again. She got a little scared showing Grandma her trick that day (usually she's so good). She did say "Go Cougars" up there though. We definitely have the cutest Cougar fans around! They love BYU and wearing blue! The also love each other! We were so ready for that game and were so glad to get a WIN!!! It was an excitin...

Fun with family

We were so excited to have Justin's parents come visit us! We love seeing family! Hailey was especially excited! She is a super great hugger! We picked Heidi up from school and went straight to the airport on Tuesday, August 30 th . The next few days Grandma helped walk Heidi to school while Justin and Papa went golfing both mornings. We went on a different route home and found this cool wooden thing. We also saw a one armed bird. We have walked home that way ever since because Hailey loves it. She also loves her bunny that Grandma brought for her (Heidi loves hers too) as well as the other little things and treats she gave them. A red bird has decided it likes our bird feeder. We have seen it out there many times now and enjoy watching it. Cougar likes to look at the bird and point at it. Heidi showed off her swimming skills to Grandma and Papa. She is a very good diver to get the rings, and very brave swimming around now that she wears the mask. She also loves to lay...

Vacation: Philadelphia, Hershey, SVU

From the temple we headed to Philadelphia. This is the view from a bridge seeing the city. It was supposed to take about 2 1/2 hours but took at least 3 1/2 because I decided to save us about 20 dollars in tolls so we took the back roads (including a detour right through Baltimore to avoid a toll road) and we stopped at a grocery store so we would have some more food for Hailey. The store was so busy and running out of all kinds of things because they were preparing for Hurricane Irene. It was a beautiful drive there and the kids slept most of the time so it was a nice drive. Once we got there we headed straight for some Philly cheese steaks. We asked beforehand for the best place to go and we were told to go to Geno's. It was pretty good. We got a regular one with no onions, a pizza cheese steak, and some freedom fries with cheese. Good, but not spectacular. The regular one was better once we put some fries on it. Heidi enjoyed the cheese fries and Hailey enjoyed some lu...

Vacation: Washington DC

We went to Washington DC on August 24th because Justin had a conference to present at there. We decided to just make it a family vacation. Our hotel was super nice, perhaps a little too nice. When we arrived we found out they only had valet parking but luckily for us it was charged to the room and paid for by the school. Definitely not our style. And they wouldn't let us take our own bags up. We just had to put them on the cart all by ourselves and then unload it but had to pay them to push it to the elevator and to our room. Lame. And the valet guys were just rude. Why did we have to pay them to drive our car a few hundred feet, it's not like they helped us get the kids in or out or our stuff or anything. Just stood there waiting for their tip. The Omni Shoreham Hotel It was very nice and right downtown. And apparently the Pelican Brief was filmed there. Since the conference was there it was kind of where we needed to stay. We were probably the only people in th...
